DO I NEED THERAPY?
DO I NEED THERAPY?
by Sarah Anderson, PWP
Are
you saying I’m mad? Is often the response many give when they are being told to
consider therapy. Howbeit, it is no longer news how important it is to take
care of your mind, especially during this war of surviving a pandemic, economy
meltdown and other daily/personal stressors. Mental health is as important as
our physical health. In fact, there is no health without mental health. Imagine
having a mental breakdown and the tons on things that will be put on hold
because there is a dysfunction in capabilities. This brings us to the question?
When do I need therapy?
When
any type of mental health or emotional concern affects daily life and function,
therapy is recommended. Therapy can help you learn about what you’re feeling,
why you might be feeling it, and how to cope. During Therapy there is a safe
place to talk through life challenges such as breakups, grief, parenting difficulties,
or family struggles.
For example, couples counselling can
help you and your partner work through relationship troubles and learn new ways
of relating to each other. Please do note that crisis resources, not couples counselling,
are typically recommended for abusive relationships.
You
are overwhelmed and easily stressed out
You
have difficulty maintaining relationship with people
You
struggle at work or school
You
have little or no sleep
You
feel hopeless
You
no longer enjoy the activities you typically do
You
have social anxiety
You
tend to have outburst often or anger issues
You
can hardly control how you feel
You
use hard substances to escape your feelings
You
have panic attacks and painful triggers based on past experiences
You
just lost something/someone precious and you are grieving
You
feel like being a better version of yourself but you don’t know where to start.
If
you have any of these challenges or you know someone who may benefit from
therapy feel free to chat us up or book an appointment to have a session with
our psychologist.
